Lili and Derek: The New Comic Strip
It's time for yet another comic strip this time about two dogs I've gotten to know over the last few years. I hope you all give it a read when it starts on August 1, 2014. AT first it's only going to run three days a week due to my work on Green Monkeys. It might switch to weekdays soon if I can figure out how to two comic strips at the same time.

My Umpteenth Dan's Papers Cover
I really did lose count of how many covers I've done over the last 25 years at Dan's Papers. In the beginning I only did one a year but later on I started doing at least four and sometimes five a year, so it added up.
Someone at the paper suggested a painting of mine for a summer cover and I had to inform them that it was already used sometime in the early 90s. I couldn't remember the date but I sure as hell knew it was on the cover.
Anyway, here is my cover ( I did one last year for this same event) for Taste of the Two Forks, hence the chefs with the two forks. Not that clever but it works.
Lili of Lili-Land is in the background as is Dan and a few of my best friends.
What's next? Not sure. Maybe a cover for the Book Fair in East Hampton.

Sculpture for Gabreski Airport in Westhampton Beach
Well, here are a few of my suggestion for a new sculpture at the Gabreski Airport. I don't suppose anyone bothered to ask any local artists. The current piece of crap standing there is a piece of junk.

Junior Kroll from 1990. Betty Paraskevas started it all with this little poem.
Betty wrote this little poem way back in 1990. I clearly remember this day. I looked at her and told her it was a book at that we were going to embark on a path that would get us an animated series on some network.
Sadly it wasn't Junior Kroll that got produced but Maggie was just a good. She said to me once that she didn't think she would have created Maggie and the Ferocious Beast if it wasn't for all her weekly poem writing on Junior Kroll. It was a great fun. Junior ran weekly in Dan's Papers from June 8th 1990 until she woke up one day and told me, "I'm done with little Junior. I've got nothing left to say about this guy."
In all she wrote about 416 story poems. I have to count them. We published 4 Junior Kroll books with Harcort Brace and 1 extra book with Cookie Jar.
We had a deal at CBS but for some reason Betty got angry that the network wanted the dog to talk. She walked away. We also had a deal at PBS but there were too many changes they wanted and we substituted Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse. I guess they didn't care. Marvin was a big hit.
Junior is around. Sometimes he appears in The Green Monkeys. My old friend Junior will live to tell his story.
Betty, I miss you everyday and nothing makes me happier than look at Junior's smiling devilish face and thinking about all the work we did together.
I should have written this on Mother's Day. Better late than never.

On My Way to School Gets a Big Star from Kirkus
Yes we got a starred review from Kirkus and you can read it here. This is the third book in the series. I will be signing books at East Hampton's Night of 1000 Authors, August 9th 2014. Lots of great authors will be there so please come for a good cause.
Last year we bumped into Chris Martin. He's a really nice guy. So you never know who is going to show up to this great event. I'll have some of my other books there too.
