The Green Monkeys Daily and Junior Kroll

Yes, I'm still writing and drawing Green Monkeys every day. It runs in Dan's Papers, here in the Hamptons, weekly and has been running since about 1999. Actually I think it's more like 2000. Here is one from a few years back. I'd like to think the strip has gotten a little better over all that time. This is one of the daily comics that has been running over at gocomics.com since January 8th, 2009. There was a long break in the daily right after Betty passed away, but I'm back at it since August 15, 2012.

You can read them here at http://www.gocomics.com/thegreenmonkeys/2013/07/11/

My wonderful mother, Betty, was writing her well known story poem every week for Dan's since 1990. It was called Junior Kroll. There are still people that come up to me and wonder what ever happened to Junior. Betty worked on Junior so much and with so much passion that one day... I wish I could remember when, I'll have to look it up, one day she woke up and said, "I'm done."

She had said every thing she could say about good old Junior Kroll. She wrote, roughly, thirty line poems about Junior and I did the drawing. We did manage to get four Junior Kroll books published over the years. They are around. You can find them on eBay or Amazon or you can email me. I have copies in my studio.

Junior was a labor of love for my mom and sometimes he shows up in the Green Monkeys comic just so I can get a chance to draw him again. I can't write like my mother. I have much different talents and I would never presume to think I could top her creativity when it comes to Junior.

Green Monkeys on the other hand is a different matter. After she finished with Junior and started writing scripts for Maggie, I took over a lot of the writing on the comic for the paper and learned over the years that writing was a lot more difficult than I thought it was.

Drawing is easy. Writing is hard.

More later on the origins of Spider and Flytrap.
